Cops to summon Bloomberg over alleged interference in MACC investigation


KUALA LUMPUR: The police will summon the international media, Bloomberg, to investigate the alleged interference the investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said the MACC lodged a report following a statement posted on social media by former Umno Supreme Working Council Member Isham Jalil, reported Sinar Harian.

"So far, we have taken the testimony of two people, namely the complainant (MACC) and Isham.

"Some individuals will also be called, especially from Bloomberg in the near future," he told reporters after the Cheras District Police Chief Handover Ceremony at the Cheras District Police Headquarters (IPD) here on Wednesday (Oct 9).

He added that the investigation was conducted under Section 500 of the Penal Code, Section 505(b) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

On Tuesday (Oct 8), Putrajaya OCPD Asst Comm Aidi Sham Mohamed confirmed that the police had recorded Isham's statement at the Putrajaya district police headquarters.

Isham had previously issued a statement urging Anwar to sue Bloomberg for alleged MACC investigation interference.

Isham suggested legal action against Bloomberg for publishing a report stating that Anwar asked the MACC not to investigate his former political secretary, Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak, regarding the case of buying shares worth millions of ringgit.

Isham also informed that if Bloomberg's statement is not true, it is serious slander.
