Lawyer on trial for causing hurt at Ipoh parking lot

IPOH: A lawyer has pleaded not guilty at a Magistrate’s Court here to causing hurt to a 35-year-old woman.

Goh Suan Poi, 72, claimed trial to the charge before Magistrate Evangelin Simon Silvaraj here yesterday.

According to the charge sheet, she was at a parking area of Aeon Kinta City at 6.46pm on Feb 18 when she voluntarily caused hurt to one Ashvinder Kaur.

Goh was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which provides imprisonment for up to a year or a maximum fine of RM2,000, or both, if she was found guilty.

She was represented by lawyer Khairilazwar Khalil, who said his client used to be a teacher from 1976 to 1997.

Goh became a lawyer later in her career and is still practising law now, he added.

“I know her personally. She will attend court.

“She has been cooperating with the police,” Khairilazwar said.

Evangelin fixed bail at RM500 with one surety and set Nov 11 as the next mention date.
