Bloomberg to be summoned over MACC case

KUALA LUMPUR: The police will summon international media Bloomberg to investigate an alleged interference in a probe by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa (pic) said the MACC lodged a report following a statement posted on social media by former Umno supreme council member Isham Jalil, reported Sinar Harian.

“So far, we have taken the testimony of two people, namely the complainant (MACC) and Isham.

“Some individuals will also be called, especially from Bloomberg in the near future,” he told reporters after the Police Chief Handover Ceremony at the Cheras district police headquarters here yesterday.

He added that the investigation was conducted under Section 500 and Section 505(b) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

On Tuesday, Putrajaya OCPD Asst Comm Aidi Sham Mohamed confirmed that the police had recorded Isham’s statement at the Putrajaya district police headquarters.

Isham had previously issued a statement urging Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to sue Bloomberg for alleged MACC investigation interference.

Isham suggested legal action against Bloomberg for publishing a report stating that Anwar asked the MACC not to investigate his former political secretary, Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak, regarding the case of buying shares worth millions of ringgit.

Both the Prime Minister’s Office and the MACC have denied the allegation.
