A ‘ruff’ day out: Russian lady and pet dog arrested for disturbing traffic

SHAH ALAM: A 32-year-old Russian woman, believed to be walking her dog, was detained for acting indecently and obstructing traffic in Setia Alam.

Meanwhile, her pet dog has been handed over to the Shah Alam City Council.

Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said the arrest of the foreign woman has since gone viral on social media.

"We received a call from the public that a woman was acting strangely and sitting in the middle of the road in Setia Alam at about 4.50pm on Wednesday (Oct 9).

"A team of police personnel arrived on scene and discovered the woman was drunk and acting aggressively. She also had a dog with her," he said in a statement on Friday (Oct 11).

Further checks revealed that the woman had no identification documents and she was subsequently detained, he said.

"She was brought to Shah Alam district police headquarters while her dog was handed over to Shah Alam City Council.

"We believe she is a Russian citizen. She did not have any prior criminal record," he said.

The woman entered the country four years ago for a vacation but did not manage to return to her country of origin due to the Covid-19 pandemic, he said.

"She also had insufficient funds to return home.

"She tested positive for THC and has been remanded until Oct 22," he said.

ACP Mohd Iqbal urged those with information to contact investigating officer Sjn Mohammad Shamsul Md Salleh at 017-5453234.
