Nearly RM70mil of drugs to be binned

JOHOR BARU: Some RM68.88mil worth of drugs and goods seized by the police over 20 years will be disposed of, says Johor police chief Comm Datuk M. Kumar.

He said the seized drugs were linked to 6,630 cases between 2000 and last year, in which court proceedings have been completed.

“We will be disposing of a total of 989.21kg of drugs and 7,479.90 litres of liquid drugs that were confiscated and have gone through all the necessary legal procedures.

“The drugs include heroin (53.36kg), cannabis (19.86kg), ketamine (45.27kg), methamphetamine (446.21kg), methylenedioxy-methamphetamine or MDMA (1.16kg), ketum leaves (339.12kg) and other drugs.

“The items that will be disposed of also include tools used by syndicates to process the drugs,” he told a press conference at the Johor police headquarters here yesterday.

He said the disposal of the items would be carried out by Kualiti Alam Sdn Bhd at Bukit Pelanduk, Negri Sembilan.

Comm Kumar also said the amount of drugs that will be disposed of this time was higher compared with last year.

“Last year, we disposed of 322.13kg of drugs and 1,562.60 litres of drugs in liquid form, estimated to be worth about RM5.43mil.

“The drugs disposed of were from some 3,214 cases, which have also completed the necessary court proceedings,” he said.

On a related matter, Comm Kumar said Johor police have arrested a total of 19,726 suspects between Jan 1 and Oct 9 this year for various drug offences.

“During the same period, we also seized some 5.48 tonnes of drugs estimated to be worth RM58.35mil,” he said, adding that some RM16.03mil of goods were also seized in connection to the cases.

He urged the public to continue being the eyes and ears of the police and to channel information they have on illegal activities.

“We hope the public can assist us in eradicating drug addiction,” he said, adding that the identity of informers would be kept confidential.
