STEM education crucial in preparing Malaysia's youth for digital creative industry, says Teo

PUTRAJAYA: Science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education is an impetus to prepare Malaysia's future generation to adapt to the rapid technological advancements of the digital creative industry, said Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching.

She said efforts to pave the way for the youth to excel in the digital creative industry were needed as the industry's market size was projected to reach US$687.4bil by 2027, with a compound annual growth rate of 9.97 per cent between 2020 and 2027.

Teo also noted that sub-sectors within the creative technology industry were also thriving, an example of which is the global animation market size that was foreseen to increase to over US$587bil by 2030.

"By investing in these fields, we are laying the groundwork for a future where technology and innovation drive our nation forward.

"For us to expand on this industry, we need more talents and skilled workers...this is why we hope to continuously cultivate the interest towards this industry in our young kids,” she said when officiating the Cyberjaya Digital Creative Circuit (CIRc8) 2024 here Friday (Oct 11).

CIRc8 2024 was held as a platform to converge digital creativity and technological innovation among the industry players within the Cyberjaya dynamic ecosystem.

During the event, Teo also witnessed a Memorandum of Understanding exchange between Animonsta Studios Sdn Bhd and Cyberview Sdn Bhd (Cyberview) as well as a Letter of Intent exchange between TODAK Holdings Sdn Bhd and Cyberview. - Bernama
