Man nabbed with drugs worth over RM86,000 in Sibu


SIBU: A 41-year-old man is facing the death penalty after being found in possession of 1.5kg of drugs valued at RM86,051.

At a press conference on Saturday (Oct 12), Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Zulkipli Suhaili said the suspect was detained during an inspection at about 1.35pm on Oct 10 in Jalan Pedada.

The Narcotics Crime Investigation Division stopped the car driven by the suspect.

During the inspection, police discovered 34 plastic packets containing 139.07 grams of suspected methamphetamine crystals and 150 Erimin pills weighing 41.78 grams.

The suspect then led police to a house in Jalan Tuah, where they seized additional drugs, including 439 plastic packets with 1,149 grams of suspected methamphetamine crystals, 13 transparent packets containing 73.71 grams of suspected ketamine crystals, and 60 tablets of Erimin 5 weighing 167.34 grams.

A car valued at around RM15,000 and RM6,600 in cash, believed to be from drug smuggling activities, were also seized.

A urine test revealed the suspect was positive for methamphetamine, amphetamine, ketamine, and benzodiazepine.

ACP Zulkipli said the suspect has been remanded for six days for investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which mandates the death penalty if convicted.

Additionally, the suspect is investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for a fine up to RM5,000 or imprisonment for up to two years, or both, with two years of supervision.
