KUALA LUMPUR: The Bukit Aman Integrity and Standard Compliance Department (JIPS) will conduct a disciplinary investigation on a senior police officer and six personnel accused of extorting and molesting a woman.
JIPS director Comm Datuk Seri Azri Ahmad stated that as per procedure, a disciplinary probe will accompany the criminal investigation report.
"The police's priority is investigating the alleged criminal acts of extortion and molestation," he said on Sunday (Oct 13).
"For JIPS, we will commence with a disciplinary investigation into the senior officers and six personnel," he added.
It was reported that a senior police officer with the rank of Assistant Superintendent, along with six personnel, were detained for allegedly extorting and molesting a woman on Oct 1.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa reported that the 22-year-old victim filed a complaint on Oct 7.
"Previously, three local men were detained in the case but were released on police bail," he said.
Further investigation led to the arrests of seven policemen, including the Assistant Superintendent, aged between their 30s and 50s.
Comm Rusdi refuted claims that actions were delayed on the matter.
"There is an allegation that the police were late in taking action. It must be understood that any action requires thorough checks and investigation," he explained.
"This includes checking transactions, CCTV footage, and addressing the victim's delay in lodging a report," he added.
All suspects have been remanded for three days.
Previously, news of a woman claiming she was extorted and molested by a group during a raid on a condominium unit in Cheras went viral on Telegram.
The victim alleged that the policemen demanded RM150,000, later reduced to RM90,000, after discovering drugs in her possession.
However, she was freed after a local man paid RM10,000, with additional payments required.
