Father, stepmother detained for child abuse

IPOH: The father and stepmother of a six-year-old abused boy have been detained by police at a house in Bagan Serai.

According to Kerian OCPD Supt Juna Yusoff, the 47-year-old man and 33-year-old woman were both arrested in Ladang Kalumpong, Bagan Serai, on Thursday.

“Police also seized several items believed to have been used by the suspects to cause injuries to the boy.

“Also seized were three bottles containing liquid believed to be ketum,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Both the suspects had been remanded until tomorrow, he added.

Supt Juna said the victim was brought to Taiping Hospital, where a doctor confirmed that he had sustained injuries and wounds to his face, chest, stomach, both hands, legs and thighs due to beatings.

“The victim is still being treated in the hospital, but he is in stable condition,” Supt Juna said.

The case was being investigated under Section 31 (1) (a) of the Child Act and Section 30 (3) of the Poison Act, he added.
