Major traffic operation in Johor leads to 62 arrests

JOHOR BARU: Cutting queues and failing to stop at red lights are among the most common offences observed by police during a major traffic operation conducted here.

Johor police chief Comm Datuk M. Kumar reported that Op Patuh was carried out from Oct 1 to Saturday (Oct 12), resulting in the arrest of 62 individuals, including four females, aged between 15 and 73 years.

“Of those arrested, about 44 were charged with driving under the influence, nine were detained for street thug activities, and another nine for various other road offences.

“During the operation, police issued 397 summonses for cutting queues and another 453 summonses for failing to stop at traffic lights. These two offences were the most frequently recorded during the operation,” he said in a statement on Sunday (Oct 13).

Comm Kumar added that an additional 2,491 summonses were issued to road users for various traffic offences, and 44 motorcycles were seized.

He said that state police would continue such operations to ensure all road users in Johor abide by traffic laws.

“Strict action will be taken against anyone who neglects road rules and poses a risk not only to themselves but to other road users,” he said.

“The public should be responsible drivers, always exercising caution and respect for other road users,” he added.
