PETALING JAYA: PAS Youth has cautioned members of its Perikatan Nasional partner, Bersatu, against using PAS' name as part of their campaign strategy during the ongoing Bersatu party elections.
This warning follows reports suggesting PAS Youth's dissatisfaction with certain Bersatu members vying for the Bersatu Youth (Armada) chief positions.
PAS Youth Information Chief Nadzir Helmi expressed this concern in a statement on Monday (Oct 14).
"We remind all not to use the name of PAS as campaign material that could lead to unnecessary controversies in the working relationship among Perikatan parties.
"PAS has never meddled in the internal matters of the youth wings of other Perikatan parties.
"As long as our fellow coalition party members are committed to fostering mature, conscientious, and clean politics, PAS is willing to cooperate.
"PAS Youth is not involved in any campaigning within other Perikatan parties, as each party manages its own affairs. I urge everyone to refrain from misusing PAS' name," Nadzir stated.
A recent media report highlighted an anonymous Bersatu member's claim that PAS would withdraw support from Bersatu if Gombak Setia assemblyman Hilman Idhan is appointed Armada chief.
Bersatu is currently conducting its party elections, with the Armada chief position contested by Hilman and incumbent Armada permanent chairman Akmal Zahin Zainal Zahir.
Both candidates are reportedly from different factions within Bersatu, with Hilman associated with incoming secretary-general Datuk Seri Azmin Ali's camp, while Akmal Zahin is said to have the backing of former Armada Chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal.
Wan Ahmad Fayhsal is reportedly aligned with the camp of incoming deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin.
The Bersatu party polls are attracting significant attention following Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's retention of his Bersatu president post, alongside Hamzah's uncontested win for the party's two highest positions in the election for 2024-2027.
