Kuala Kangsar water festival returns after 15 years

IPOH: After a 15-year pause, the Kuala Kangsar Water Festival is all set to make a splash again on October, 2024.

The festival's main committee chairman, Orang Kaya Bendahara Seri Maharaja, General (Rtd) Tan Sri Mohd Zahidi Zainuddin, said the festival will be held over two days, on Oct 26 and 27, at Dataran Lembah Sungai Perak in Kuala Kangsar.

He said the programme, organised by the state government in collaboration with the Perak State Youth Council and Muafakat Anak Jati Kuala Kangsar (Gemuda), is expected to attract over 50,000 visitors.

"The last time we organised it was in 2009, 15 years have passed, and now it is back.

"The festival is also held in conjunction with the celebration of His Royal Highness' (Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah) birthday in November and 10th anniversary of the reign of the Ruler, who ascended the throne in 2014," he told a press conference here on Monday (Oct 14)

Mohd Zahidi stated that the organizers also ensure the safety of the participants competing in the festival and are always attentive to the concerns of all parties.

"The organisers are also aware of the current weather conditions, particularly the shift in the monsoon season. They are hoping for good weather during the festival and are also praying for the river water to remain at a safe level," he said.

The Kuala Kangsar Water Sports Festival 2024 is expected to feature dragon boat races, kayaks, jet skis, decorated boats and flyboards, jetsurf and lift efoils board shows.

There will also be congkak contests, batu seremban, fruit arrangement, colouring, Zumba competitions, street volleyball, netball, slippery poles and pillow fight competitions.

Other competitions involve dance, esports, Chinese calligraphy, kolam, traditional clothing and fashion and remote-controlled cars. – Bernama
