SEREMBAN: Authorities have captured the macaque believed to have attacked a 10-year-old girl in a residential area and hospitalised her with deep wounds to her leg.
State National Parks and Wildlife Department (Perhilitan) director Faizal Izham Pikri said the wild animal was caught several hours after the girl was attacked in the compound of her house in Taman Warisan Puteri near here on Sunday (Oct 13).
He said a team was dispatched to the area after Perhilitan received a report around 6pm the same day.
"We managed to capture the macaque about three hours after it was believed to have attacked the girl.

"It was tough initially as the macaque was hiding on the roofs of the houses in the area," he said.
It was earlier reported that the girl sustained injuries to her leg after she was attacked whilst attempting to ward off the monkey from her younger siblings, aged five and two, around 4.20pm on Sunday.
The victim was then helping her mother Nurul Farahana Zaini, 35, to dry the laundry, accompanied by her two siblings.
Nurul Farahana said while they were hanging the laundry, a macaque suddenly emerged and was about to attack her children when the victim went to the aid of her siblings.
"She protected her younger siblings from being harmed by the wild animal but ended up being bitten on her left leg," she said.
Nurul Farahana then took a piece of wood to chase the monkey away.
She then rushed her daughter to the Tuanku Ja'afar Hospital for treatment as her injuries looked serious.
"My daughter had to be warded as she sustained deep wounds which required stitching.
"Doctors will continue to monitor her closely this week to ensure her wounds do not get infected," she added.
