Senior Assistant at Ipoh primary school nabbed for sexually harassing 12-year-old

IPOH: A 37-year-old senior assistant at a primary school has been detained for allegedly sexually harassing a 12-year-old pupil.

Perak police chief Datuk Comm Azizi Mat Aris stated that the suspect has been remanded for six days until Oct 17.

The victim's 47-year-old mother lodged a report on Oct 11 at about 3pm.

The suspect was apprehended on the same day the report was filed, Comm Azizi announced during a press conference at the state police contingent headquarters today (Oct 14).

Comm Azizi noted that initial investigations indicate the teacher has been at the school for eight months and the acts may have occurred multiple times against the victim.

Authorities are also probing if other victims are involved.

He mentioned that the suspect is unmarried and has no prior criminal records.

The case is being investigated under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

On Sunday (Oct 13), Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh emphasised the importance of protecting the victim and urged the public to respect her privacy.

He noted that after receiving the report, the Education Department took swift action to remove the individual from the campus, as stated in a Facebook post on Sunday (Oct 13).
