Affected Taman Melawati residents need Geoscience Dept green light to move back

AMPANG: Residents evacuated following a landslide in Taman Melawati this morning will have to wait for the Mineral and Geoscience Department to give the go-ahead before they can move back.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Azam Ismail said that department officers are currently assessing the site.

“They will come up with the assessment report to see if it is safe for them to move back in. In the meantime, a temporary evacuation centre has been opened in AU2 Keramat,” he said at the site.

He said that 11 families from 16 houses were advised to move out following the landslide.

ACP Mohd Azam added that the slope where the landslide took place was privately-owned by a company.

“Currently clearing works at Jalan Serdang are being done by Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ). Once the road is cleared residents will be able to remove their vehicles,” he said.

Agencies on site include the Fire and Rescue Department, Gombak District and Land Office and Public Works Department.
