Flash flood victims in Perak decrease, some shelters close

IPOH: The total count of flash flood victims in Perak has reduced, with 1,013 individuals still taking refuge at evacuation centres.

The State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat said that two shelters - SK Kerunai and SK Pahit in Hulu Perak - have been closed and some evacuees at SK Kuala Slim in Muallim were allowed to return home at 2pm.

Earlier on Tuesday (Oct 15) at around 10am, the figure stood at 1,644 people across five districts.

There are now seven active relief centres in the Kerian, Kuala Kangsar, Muallim, and Hilir Perak districts.

The evacuee numbers at the Bawong Orang Asli One-Stop Centre in Kuala Kangsar, specifically from Kampung Chenien, have risen from 334 to 378, and the Meteorological Department forecasts thunderstorms throughout Perak.

The Perak Drainage and Irrigation Department has reported dangerous water levels at Sungai Bidor near Changkat Jong in Hilir Perak.

Sungai Rui in Hulu Perak, Sungai Kinta in Kampung Baru Kuala Dipang, and Sungai Slim in Slim River are at warning levels, while Sungai Pelus in Kampung Lintang, Sungai Perak in Teluk Sena, Perak Tengah, and at Pasang Api in Bagan Datuk are on alert.
