Flood alert: Number of evacuees rises in Perak


IPOH: The number of flash flood victims in Perak has increased, with 1,644 people having been evacuated to 10 temporary shelters across five districts.

According to the State Disaster Management Committee secretariat, Kuala Kangsar was the district that was most affected, with 720 victims from 255 families being displaced as of Tuesday (Oct 15) at about 10am.

This was followed by Muallim district with 558 victims from 149 families, Hulu Perak with 224 victims from 68 families, Kerian (104 people) and Hilir Perak (38).

Taman Slim Permai in Muallim was among the worst hit areas, with 479 victims, followed by Kampung Chenein in Kuala Kangsar with 334 people.

The Perak Irrigation and Drainage Department also reported that the water levels of Sungai Perak near Kuala Kenderong in Hulu Perak and at Kampung Gajah are at a dangerous level while Sungai Kinta at Tanjung Tualang is at the warning level.

As for the weather forecast, thunderstorms are expected across all districts in Perak in the evening, followed by continuous rainfall during the night.
