IPOH: Che Morni Abdul Rani dreads it every time the sky turns grey.
The 42-year-old housewife from Kampung Perhentian in Slim River said her home gets inundated whenever there is prolonged rainfall.
Che Morni said it has been raining quite frequently for the past few days.
"My family and I have sleepless nights whenever it rains.
"Apart from stressing and worrying about floods, I also have to prepare my children for school," she said at the temporary relief centre at SK Slim River on Tuesday (Oct 15).
"The flood this time is quite bad. My furniture has been damaged.
"I am not looking forward to cleaning up my house when we get back," she added.
Muallim was among five districts flooded following a continuous downpour for days.
On Tuesday morning, the number of evacuees from the district stood at 558, but the number dropped to 75 by noon.
About 1,100 people from Hulu Perak, Kerian, Kuala Kangsar and Hilir Perak continue to be displaced by the floods.
Che Morni hoped the government would come up with better solutions to resolve flooding in the district.
She said the former Slim assemblyman, the late Datuk Mohd Khusairi Abdul Talib, had improved the monsoon drainage system during his tenure.
"I hope the government will consider deepening the rivers and building high retention walls," she said, adding that she also hoped to get compensation for the damages suffered so far.
Meanwhile, Nur Suhada Mohd Saad, 37, who is physically disabled, thanked the Civil Defence Department and other rescue personnel for relocating her and five family members to the relief centre from Kampung Kuala Slim.
"The floodwater was over a metre deep. We are grateful to have been rescued and moved to the shelter yesterday (Monday, Oct 14) afternoon.
"We were given food, water and some medical attention," she added.
Slim assemblyman Muhammad Zulfadli Zainal, who was present to check on the victims, said NGOs and individuals alike are welcome to help victims with monetary aid or daily goods.
Muallim Social Welfare Department officer Muhammad Ghazawi Zulkarnain said they are always prepared to assist victims.
He advised them to register with the department so that aid can be provided.
The Tanjung Malim MP's service centre has also prepared food and drinks for victims and workers at the temporary relief centre.
