Floods: Two Kemas kindergartens to be temporarily closed for clean-up works

PETALING JAYA: The two Community Development Department (Kemas) kindergartens affected by the floods on Tuesday (Oct 15) will be temporarily closed for cleaning works.

Kemas said the two centres - Tabika Kemas Klang Gate, Gombak and Tabika Kemas, Jalan Hulu Klang, Batu 8 in Ampang, will be closed until Wednesday (Oct 16) with lessons to continue on Thursday (Oct 17).

“We will make sure the premises are fully cleaned and sanitised to ensure the safety of students and staff once it is reopened,” it said in a statement on Tuesday (Oct 15).

Drainage systems surrounding the two Kemas kindergartens affected by the floods will also be evaluated to prevent further untoward incidents, it said.

“We will work closely with the local authorities and rescue personnel on this, and take the necessary preventive measures including repairs to the drainage system, if needed,” he said.

Kemas also said no untoward incidents had happened at the two kindergartens during the flash floods.

“Safety measures were swiftly taken and followed the necessary procedures,” it said.

It also assured that necessary repairs will be taken to ensure teaching and learning activities can proceed smoothly.

Kemas added that steps will also be taken to prevent and control the spread of infectious diseases due to the floods, with advice from the Health Ministry.

“We will continue monitoring the situation and take necessary measures to prevent such incidents from repeating in the future,” it said.

Earlier Tuesday, swift action by the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department successfully saved 21 pupils from the Kemas nursery along Jalan Hulu Klang, Batu 8, from flash floods.

Four teachers were also present at that time.

Residents were also instructed to evacuate while the students were handed over to their respective parents.
