KUALA LUMPUR: Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISB) executive chairman and chief executive officer Datuk Nasiruddin Mohd Ali should be stripped of his Datukship.
The call was made by government backbencher Khoo Poay Tiong (PH-Kota Melaka) during debates on GISB in Parliament.
"Several states such as Perlis, Selangor, Pahang and Melaka have since declared GISB as deviant.
"As such, I ask that the Datukship title given to GISB's executive chairman and chief executive officer is retracted.
"This is to safeguard the good image of royal institution, nation and the states," he said during debates on a special motion on GISB in Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday.
Khoo also asked if a Royal Commission of Inquiry or Special Parliamentary Select Committee would be set up to probe the alleged exploitation and sexual abuse of children by GISB.
"The probe must be transparent and made public," he said.
Meanwhile, Hassan Abdul Karim (PH-Pasir Gudang) chided the authorities for resorting to the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma) to investigate GISB members under the anti-terrorism law.
He said that the members were not terrorists but fell wayward with regard to their faith.
"I disagree that there are some 50 members detained under Sosma.
"It is not right to use Sosma.
"I watched on television how they were heavily guarded by officers armed with M16s.
"Are they terrorists akin to those in the Lahad Datu incident? Don't overkill," he said.
Although the allegations against GISB members were serious, he said the use of the draconian law against them was oppressive and cruel.
He noted that those detained were already being investigated under a slew of different laws.
