Johor Immigration nabs 57 without documents in separate raids in JB, Kulai

JOHOR BARU: Johor Immigration has detained 57 illegal immigrants in two separate operations around here and Kulai.

Director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus said actions were taken following public complaints about the high presence of immigrants believed to be working without legal documentation.

“In the first operation, a team of enforcement personnel carried out checks at nine locations around Senai between 12.15am and 1am in the wee hours of Tuesday (Oct 15) morning.

“Our team inspected 94 individuals and detained about 50 of them,” he said in a statement here on Tuesday.

Mohd Rusdi added among those detained were 47 Myanmar nationals including 32 women, two Nepalese men and an Indonesian man, aged between 19 and 55 years old.

He said those that were arrested had committed various Immigration offences including Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63(Act 155) for not possessing any passes or legitimate permit to be in Malaysia and Section 15(1)(c) if the same Act for overstaying.

“One Myanmar woman was detained under Section 56(1)(d) of the same Act for protecting an illegal immigrant,” he added.

In the second operation, Mohd Rusdi said the department detained seven illegal immigrants for working at roadside burger stalls around here during an operation, which was carried out at around 8pm on Saturday (Oct 13) night.

He added that the department carried out checks at five burger stalls which led to the inspection of eight individuals including a local.

“Those that were detained are three male Bangladeshi nationals, a male and a female Indonesian nationals, a Myanmar female national, and a male Indian national aged between 25 and 45 years old,” he said.

Mohd Rusdi added that they were detained after checks found they had committed various offences such as violating their work permit, not possessing a valid pass or permit, and overstaying.

He said all of those that were detained have been placed at Setia Tropika Immigration depot for further investigation and action.

Mohd Rusdi also said that the department would continue to carry out enforcement action in curbing the presence of illegal immigrants throughout Johor.
