Landslide area in Taman Melawati classified high risk, residents ordered to evacuate

AMPANG JAYA: The landslide area near Jalan E6, Taman Melawati, Ampang, has been classified as high risk, prompting authorities to order the immediate evacuation of nearby residents, Malay language portal Astro Awani reports.

Authorities, including the police, Fire and Rescue Department, and the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council, have instructed approximately 300 residents in 18 houses on Jalan E6 to leave their homes to prevent any potential incidents.

The landslide incident gained attention on social media after a video showing the landslide near the residential area went viral.

The heavy water flow from the hill caused several trees to fall around the houses and damaged residents' vehicles.

Residents shared videos of the destruction on social media, illustrating the extent of the damage.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant operations director Ahmad Mukhlis Mokhtar reported that they received a call about the incident at 11:42am Tuesday.

"A team of six personnel and officers with machinery from the Ampang Fire and Rescue Station rushed to the scene," he told AstroAwani.

According to Ahmad Mukhlis, upon arrival, the operations commander Senior Fire Officer II (KUP) Syamsul Shahar, identified a landslide on the hillside covering an area of 20mx20m and a height of 30m.

"The incident did not result in any casualties or damage to homes. However, there is ongoing earth movement at the site," he noted.

Resident Chandra Kumar described the event to AstroAwani, saying, "Around 10:30am, I heard a loud crashing sound and realised my car had been pushed to the roadside.

"When I tried to move my vehicle, there was a second landslide, causing panic."

He added, "For now, we have been instructed to evacuate temporarily."
