Malaysia's role as 2025 Asean chair among highlights in Parliament today

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has prepared its roadmap for its role as Asean chair in 2025, particularly addressing economic and geopolitical challenges and this topic is among the key issues to be discussed in the Dewan Rakyat session on Tuesday (Oct 15).

According to the Order Paper on Parliament’s website, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari (PH-Gombak) will raise the issue during Minister’s Question Time.

Amirudin will also ask the Prime Minister on the outcomes of Malaysia’s participation in the 44th and 45th Asean Summits from Oct 8 to 11.

In the same session, Ahmad Fadhli Shaari (PN-Pasir Mas) will ask the Prime Minister if the government was prepared to pursue legal action against an international news agency over allegations of interference in Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigations.

Another point of interest is Datuk Mohd Shahar Abdullah’s (BN-Paya Besar) question during the oral question and answer session.

He will asked the Economy Minister about the government's plans to stimulate growth in the high-skilled sector to accommodate the increasing number of highly qualified individuals entering the job market.

Following the question and answer session, the sitting continues with the first reading of two Bills: the Supply Bill 2025 by the Finance Minister, and the National Wages Consultative Council (Amendment) Bill 2024 by the Human Resources Minister.

Additionally, a Minister in the Prime Minister's Department will propose that the Dewan Rakyat support the government in ensuring that the findings and recommendations in the Auditor-General's Report are taken seriously by the relevant parties to prevent recurring weaknesses.

The Dewan Rakyat will then resume the debate on the Constitution (Amendment) Bill 2024, which seeks to lower the age for applying for citizenship from 21 to 18 years old.

The third meeting of the third session of the 15th Parliament will convene for 35 days until Dec 12. – Bernama
