Man gets 36 years' jail and six strokes of rotan for rape


SIBU: A man has been sentenced to 36 years' jail and six strokes of the rotan by the Sessions Court on Tuesday (Oct 15) with three counts of raping an underage girl.

The accused, Zebrail Frick Philip, 28, was charged under Section 376 (2) (d) for the offences.

The Section provides for imprisonment of not less than 10 years and not more than 30 years plus whipping.

The three offences were committed in a room of a house in Taman Seri Sengkabang on Jalan Sibu-Tatau on three different occasions which were on Dec 31, 2023, May 31, 2024 and June 15, 2024.

Judge Musyiri Peet sentenced the accused to 12 years in jail and two lashes for each of the three offences.

However, he ordered that the sentence be run concurrently.

The accused is to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest on June 16.
