SEREMBAN: A monkey attacked a 10-year-old girl who was hanging the laundry in her house yard and bit her on the leg, leaving her with a nasty injury.
However, the macaque was caught three hours later by the State National Parks and Wildlife Department.
Nur Keisha Marissa Mohd Irfan was helping her mother on Sunday afternoon when the monkey suddenly appeared outside their house in Taman Warisan Puteri near here.
Nurul Farahana Zaini, 35, said her two other children, aged five and two, were also present during the incident.
“As we were putting out the laundry, the monkey suddenly emerged and looked like it would attack the children.
“Marissa tried to protect her younger siblings from the wild animal but ended up being bitten on her left leg,” she said.
Nurul Farahana said she then chased the monkey away with a piece of wood.
She then rushed her daughter to the Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital as her injuries looked serious.
“Marissa had to be warded as the wound is deep and requires stitching,” she said.
“Doctors will continue to monitor her closely this week to ensure her wound does not get infected.”
State wildlife Department director Faizal Izham Pikri said a team was sent to the area after a report was received around 6pm.
“We managed to capture the macaque three hours later. It was tough initially as the monkey was hiding on the roof of the houses in the area,” he said.
