IPOH: A senior assistant at a primary school here has been arrested for allegedly kissing, hugging and sending indecent photographs to a 12-year-old pupil.
Perak police chief Datuk Comm Azizi Mat Aris said the 37-year-old man was arrested on Oct 11, the same day the victim’s mother lodged a report.
He said the report was made at 3pm by the 47-year-old woman.
“The suspect has been remanded for six days until Oct 17.
“In the report, the victim’s mother mentioned that her daughter was kissed on the lips, hugged and indecent photographs were sent to the mobile by the suspect,” he told a press conference at the state police contingent headquarters here yesterday.
Comm Azizi said initial investigations indicated that the teacher had been at the school for eight months and the acts may have occurred multiple times against the victim.
“We are also investigating if there are other victims involved. The suspect is not married and has no criminal record,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
On Sunday, Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh, in a Facebook post, said it was important to protect the victim and urged the public to give her space.
He said after receiving the report, the state Education Department had taken the necessary action and removed the individual implicated from the school.
In another case, Comm Azizi said a drug-trafficking syndicate was busted following the seizure of drugs worth almost RM790,000.
Five men, aged between 30 and 47, were nabbed during a raid on a rented house in Chui Chak, near Teluk Intan, on Oct 10 at 8pm.
Comm Azizi said urine tests carried out on all the five came back positive for methamphetamine, adding that the suspects have criminal records linked to drug-related offences.
“About 22kg of heroin, methamphetamine and crystal meth in translucent plastic packets were seized.
“The syndicate is believed to be active since September this year, and the drugs were meant for the local market in the state,” Comm Azizi said, adding that the drugs seized could cater to 218,664 users.
He said the main suspect, who is 47 years old, has a record linked to 23 criminal and drug offences.
All suspects have been remanded until Oct 17. The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
