Taman Melawati landslide slope is privately owned, says MPAJ

AMPANG: The landslide-hit slope in Taman Melawati is privately owned, says the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ).

MPAJ, in a statement, said that checks showed that the affected site was owned by a developer.

The landslide affected a slope, located between Jalan G2 and Jalan Serdang, which cut off the access road to 20 houses at Jalan E6.

Following the landslide, iMPAJ said that the drainage at Jalan G2 would be temporarily diverted by the Fire and Rescue Department to reduce water flow to the affected area.

“The cause for the erosion is being determined by the Department of Mineral and Geoscience (JMG).

“As a safety precaution, MPAJ has also covered the exposed slope with tarpaulin,” it said.

It added that MPAJ and KDEB Waste Management were carrying out drainage cleaning works at the site to remove mud, soil and sand.

Jalan Serdang and Jalan E6 are also being cleared to allow residents access to and from the residential area.

Updates will be provided on when the road will be accessible, MPAJ said.

Earlier, it was reported that the police had ordered the residents of 20 houses to evacuate their homes.

A car was damaged in the landslide and a guardhouse cabin was also overturned due to the falling debris, but no casualties were reported.

The landslide caused a 20mX20m slope to collapse from a height of 30m.

The landslide incident gained attention on social media after a video showing the landslide near the residential area went viral.
