Duo held for alleged petrol smuggling, air rifle possession in Tanah Merah

KOTA BHARU: Police arrested two men on suspicion of being involved in the smuggling of petrol and possession of air rifles in a house in Kampung Nibong, Tanah Merah Wednesday (Oct 16).

The suspects, aged 40 and 44, also tested positive for methamphetamine.

General Operations Force (GOF) Southeast Brigade Commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid, when contacted, said that they found the two air rifles and 150 marbles during the raid on the house.

He said the duo also acted as transporters to smuggle firearms into a neighbouring country.

"Police also seized three mobile phones, 201 litres of petrol and a weighing scale, while the total seizure is estimated at RM8,065 and the case is being investigated under Section 36 of the Arms Act 1960, Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and the Control of Supplies Act 1961.

"The seized items have been handed over to the Tanah Merah police headquarters and the GOF will continue to intensify its efforts to curb smuggling activities at the country's borders,” he said.- Bernama
