Infrastructure issues, not overdevelopment, caused Taman Melawati landslide, says MB

AMPANG: The landslide that struck Taman Melawati on Tuesday was not caused by over-development, according to Selangor MB Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari (pic).

He identified a lack of infrastructure maintenance as a possible trigger for the landslide.

"The last planning permission for the area was issued in 2014. These developments were not high density but primarily bungalow lots," he explained during a site visit on Wednesday (Oct 16) morning.

Amirudin urged landowners to ensure proper land maintenance.

His remarks followed early reports suggesting the landslide might have been triggered by clogged drainage at the top of the slope.

He appealed to local authorities to conduct regular monitoring and alert landowners when necessary.

"Owners need to be proactive in maintaining their land. In this case, we have contacted the landowner and issued a notice to maintain the road and drains," he added.

The landslide led to the evacuation of residents from 20 houses in Jalan E6.
