SHAH ALAM: Suspects who kidnapped a 12-year-old girl had tried to sell her off to a prostitution ring, Selangor police say.
State Chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said that the deal only failed once the perpetrators found out that the police had publicly released information on the girl’s disappearance.
“The leader of the group had attempted to sell her off to the ring. It was within the Chow Kit area but the girl was told to go back to the six suspects (when the deal failed).
Last Saturday (Oct 12), Selangor police arrested six suspects including two women following raids in Segambut Dalam, Setia Alam and Pandamaran once the kidnap victim was reported missing.
“It is likely that all six suspects will have their remands extended tomorrow,” he said when met after an evidence disposal ceremony at the police contingent headquarters on Thursday (Oct 17)
Comm Hussein added that two of the six suspects, a 13-year-old boy and 23-year-old man, had also sexually assaulted the victim.
The victim was last seen going to a car to pick up food below her residence at a flat in Bandar Bukit Tinggi 1, Klang.
From there, police believed that she had gotten into a car with the suspects after she recognised one of the girls riding along within.
“She wanted to follow them because she knew one of the girls who was the ex-girlfriend of her brother,” he said.
The 12-year-old victim was reported missing on Tuesday (Oct 8) but was found safe on Saturday (Oct 12) with the suspects arrested the same day.
Two more suspects, believed to be linked to the prostitution ring, are still being traced down by the police.
The victim was found on Saturday after being reported missing on Oct 8.
