Croc spot sparks alarm among Sg Muar residents

AN angler in Muar sparked alarm among locals after spotting a crocodile crawling ashore when he was fishing at Sungai Muar recently, reported Sin Chew Daily.

At around 10pm on Monday near Kampung Sarang Buaya, the man saw something moving by the riverbank.

He pointed his torch at the moving object and was shocked to see that it was a crocodile crawling onto the bridge.

He managed to take a short video of the reptile.

Sungai Balang assemblyman Selamat Takim confirmed that he saw the video and urged anglers to be on alert.

He said while the crocodile caught on film was a small one (only about a metre long), its appearance could signal that other, bigger ones were nesting nearby.

According to Selamat, it had been several decades since the last crocodile was spotted in the village.

When contacted, the Muar Wildlife and National Parks Department confirmed that Sungai Muar has always had crocodiles.

The department said most people would run away when they saw the reptile and that there was no report of anyone being attacked by a crocodile there.
