Disabled girl found drowned in Menggatal river

KOTA KINABALU: An 11-year-old girl with a disability has been found drowned.

The body of Indah Tawasil was discovered and recovered by search and rescuers at around 6.30pm, some five hours after she went missing.

The body was handed over to police for further action.

The girl had gone missing after jumping from a bridge into a river in Menggatal, near here, kicking off search and rescue efforts.

The girl is believed to have leapt into the river at Kg Lokub to join other children swimming but did not resurface.

Kota Kinabalu Fire Station chief Ordine Gilu said they received a distress call at 1.03pm and arrived at the scene approximately 40mins later.

It had been raining in many parts of the city since late afternoon, which complicated the search.
