Man nabbed for taking a belt to the son

KOTA KINABALU: A 29-year-old man, said to have injured his seven-year-old son after beating the boy with a belt, has been arrested.

Tawau OCPD Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin said the father was arrested on Tuesday following a police report made by the victim’s aunt who had found the boy with severe injuries on his body last Saturday.

The suspect was arrested at Mile 3, Jalan Apas here, at about 12.45pm, ACP Jasmin said in a statement.

According to the complainant, her nephew was lashed with a belt.

ACP Jasmin said the child was allegedly often beaten by the father.

“We have rescued the child and seized the belt suspected to have been used during the incident,” he added.

The suspect, he added, has been remanded and is being investigated for causing grievous hurt under Sections 324 and 326A of the Penal Code.

“If convicted, he can be jailed for up to 10 years or fined, whipped, or twice the punishment,” he said.
