MetMalaysia: More thunderstorms, heavy rain predicted in eight states

PETALING JAYA: A warning for thunderstorms and heavy rains has been issued for late evening until early morning for areas in Selangor and Putrajaya.

The heavy rains and thunderstorms are taking place at a time when many of these places along the west coast, such as Klang, are expecting high tide.

The advisory issued by the Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) at 9pm will last until 1am on Friday (Oct 18).

The affected areas are Selangor (Klang, Petaling, Kuala Langat and Sepang), Putrajaya, Negri Sembilan (Seremban and Port Dickson) and Perak (Kuala Kangsar, Kinta and Kampar).

Also affected are Kelantan (Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Kota Bharu, Bachok, Pasir Puteh and Gua Musang), Terengganu (Besut, Setiu, Kuala Nerus, Hulu Terengganu, Kuala Terengganu and Marang), Pahang (Cameron Highlands, Lipis and Jerantut), the interior areas of Sabah (Nabawan), Tawau (Tawau), Sandakan (Tongod, Telupid, Kinabatangan and Sandakan) and Kudat (Pitas and Kudat).

Malaysia is currently in the trans-monsoon phase, which is expected to last until early November.

During this period, the country will experience winds blowing from different directions, which may lead to thunderstorms, often accompanied by heavy rain and strong winds.

Selangor, Penang, Perlis, Perak, Negri Sembilan and Melaka are among the states likely to be hit by the high tide which is expected to last until Oct 21.
