Selangor welcomes business ventures from China, says Amirudin

KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor actively welcomes business opportunities from China, says Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

The Selangor Mentri Besar expressed hope that the 14th Malaysia-China Entrepreneurs Conference (MCEC) would foster deeper cooperation not only between both governments but also among entrepreneurs from both nations.

“Young people in both Malaysia and China have repeatedly demonstrated an amazing entrepreneurial spirit.

“As leaders in government, industry, or the community, it is our responsibility to ensure they have the tools and knowledge to succeed in today’s rapidly evolving world of technology,” he said to foreign delegates at the launch of the conference on Thursday (Oct 17).

The MCEC has attracted approximately 800 participants, of which 500 were from China, Japan, Korea, the Philippines, Thailand, and Indonesia.

This year marks the fourth time the Selangor government has participated as a strategic partner in the MCEC.

This aligns with MCEC’s theme this year: Celebrating 50 Years of Diplomatic Relations: Bringing Nations for Collective Growth.

Echoing Amirudin’s sentiments, MCEC’s organising chairman Siah Teong Chein emphasised the importance of leveraging the strengths of both nations to deepen enterprise cooperation.

“Let us explore opportunities and see how we can create a win-win situation by utilising our respective advantages,” he said.

The conference witnessed the exchange of seven memorandums of understanding (MoU) between Malaysian and Chinese companies, with a total value of RM1.148bil.

Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce president Loo Kok Seong said that these MoUs would create more professional job opportunities in Malaysia, attracting talent to stay and work locally.

“I believe this will contribute to our business tourism revenue,” Loo said, adding that both nations show significant potential for collaboration, particularly in areas such as innovation, clean energy, and infrastructure development.

Through the conference, Malaysian companies could partner with businesses from China and other countries to explore new opportunities, especially in the fields of digital economy and green transformation, he added.

Loo said that Malaysia can leverage China’s expertise to drive the modernisation and sustainable development of its local industries.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of Malaysia and China’s official diplomatic ties.

MCEC’s 15th conference will be held in China next year.
