Stay vigilant as heavy, prolonged rainfall to persist till year-end, says Perak MB

IPOH: Remain vigilant as forecasts indicate flash floods are expected to persist until the end of the year, says Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.

The Perak Mentri Besar said a Meteorological Department report indicated a trend that was similar to 2014 could occur.

"I advise the people to stay alert until the end of the year.

"However, unlike then, this year’s floods are not happening all at once but repeatedly in certain areas, including new locations," he said after the Pertubuhan Peladang Perak's 48th annual general meeting here on Thursday (Oct 17).

He said all disaster management committee chairman, relevant agencies and village chiefs must pay close attention to the situation and to remind their respective communities.

"Those living near rivers or water bodies, including in urban areas, should remain alert.

"The unusual weather patterns are causing rainfalls to be erratic, heavy and prolonged.

"The rains don't follow a typical pattern anymore. It's occurring unpredictably, in large amounts and over extended periods," he added.
