Budget 2025: Total of RM560mil allocated to strengthen country’s borders

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of RM560mil has been allocated to strengthen the country's border security, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister said the funds will be used for various efforts including building new and upgrading ICQS in Rantau Panjang and Bukit Berapit as well as building two new border posts in Bantul and Serudung, Sabah.

"The funds will also be used to provide enforcement agencies with drone and AI technologies," he said in tabling Budget 2025.

Towns bordering Kalimantan, Indonesia and southern Thailand will be given priority in having complete basic infrastructure through RM1bil allocation.

"It includes building new bridges in Rantau Panjang-Golok and in Pengkalan Kubor-Tumpat, costing RM50mil.

"RM5mil will also be allocated to provide clean water via the hybrid method using rain and underground water," he said.

Anwar said RM20mil was also allocated to increase the efficiency of entry point management following the use of QR codes in main entry points in the southern Peninsular.

"The use of QR codes to inspect bus passengers and motorcycle users at main entry points in the southern part of the country had reduced the inspection time by 40%.

"Thus RM20mil will be allocated to strengthen security at the country's entry points," he said.
