SHAH ALAM: The six suspects who kidnapped a 12-year-old girl in Klang near here had tried to sell her off to a prostitution ring, say police.
Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the deal fell through after the perpetrators found out that the police had released information on the girl’s disappearance to the public.
“The leader of the group had attempted to sell her off to the ring in the Chow Kit area. However, the girl was sent back to the suspects (when the deal failed).
“It is likely that all the suspects will have their remands extended,” he said when met after an evidence disposal ceremony at the police contingent headquarters here yesterday.
He said two more suspects were still being tracked down.
The girl was reported missing after going to a car to pick up food below her residence at a flat on Oct 8.
Police believed she had later got into a car with the suspects after she recognised one of the women in the vehicle.
“She knew one of them as the ex-girlfriend of her brother,” Comm Hussein said.
On Oct 12, Selangor police arrested the suspects, including two women, following raids in Segambut Dalam, Setia Alam and Pandamaran. The victim was found safe that same day.
In another case, Comm Hussein said a group of armed men were arrested after gold ingots worth around RM5.9mil were robbed from two workers who were loading the items into a company car in Puchong.
In the Sept 13 incident, four masked and armed men emerged from a blue car and ambushed the workers.
The complainant said he was attacked while his co-worker was held at knifepoint with a machete.
Follow-up investigations led to raids between Oct 8 and 14, where seven people, aged between 27 and 60, were arrested.
“Checks showed that four of the suspects had police records linked to 25 criminal and drug- related offences,” Comm Hussein said.He said the car used during the robbery was also seized along with cash that the police believed were the proceeds from the stolen gold.
Comm Hussein said two suspects were charged in Petaling Jaya yesterday, with four more expected to be charged today.
“Efforts are under way to trace two more suspects,” he added.
Separately, Comm Hussein said a total of 18,878 suspects were nabbed over drug use and distribution within the state between January and September this year.
A total of 27 drug syndicates had also been busted.
In total, Selangor police seized RM103.54mil worth of drugs in the same period.
During an evidence disposal ceremony yesterday, police had disposed of 1,993.98kg and 267,711.02 litres of drugs, said to be linked to 5,894 cases from 2009 to 2024.The value of the disposed drugs was worth RM131.71mil, said Comm Hussein.
“These items were disposed of after the legal process had been completed,” he added.
