Carnival-like air as Melaka Christians hold colourful procession through historic city

MELAKA: The historic city here had a carnival-like atmosphere as thousands of Christians held a harmonious and colourful procession on Saturday (Oct 19).

Organising chairman of the walk, Rev Thomas Cherian said the event on Sat (Oct 19) was held to celebrate 500 years of Christian heritage in the state.

"The 4km walk is also to appreciate the state's vibrant cultural composition and its multiethnic and multi-religious population," he said.

Cherian said the walk was also in conjunction with the ongoing Visit Melaka Year 2024 where fellow Christians from various places including Klang Valley, Singapore, Sabah and Sarawak were also invited to take part in the event.

"Our objective in organising the walk was also meant to support the local tourism industry," he said.

Cherian, who is also the Southern Region Priest and Pastor of the Anglican Church, said 52 churches in the state made the event, known as the "Bless Melaka Parade 2024", a meaningful one.

The route of the walk also covered various iconic churches and streets in the city.
