Funding to nurture young artistes

LOCAL filmmakers say the RM30mil allotted for the creative youth programme will encourage the young ones to be more proactive about the creative industry.

Film director Zulkarnain Azhar said the Madani Creative Youth Programme (Program Belia Kreatif Madani) will encourage the younger generation to harness critical thinking.

“We want to elevate our local arts and literature for international export, while also using them as a platform to promote Malaysia to the world,” said Zulkarnain, who directed this year’s action flick Takluk: Lahad Datu.

At the 2025 Budget presentation, Prime Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said this programme will include workshops on videography skills for creative content, film community development and short film competitions.

Co-founder of Feisk Productions Iskander Azizuddin said the programme is a promising move for the development of youth in the arts, though he noted that clear guidelines must be set for it to succeed.

“It is crucial that these workshops have follow-through to ensure that there is a clear path and an end goal,” said the producer, who has included film students in his past productions.
