Number of displaced flood victims in Perak drops significantly

IPOH: The number of flash flood victims in Perak has dropped, with 575 people still taking refuge at temporary relief centres in three districts.

According to the State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat, eight relief centres were still operating as of 6pm on Saturday (Oct 19) at Kerian, Perak Tengah, and Hilir Perak.

On Friday (Oct 18) at 10 pm, 1,619 victims were displaced at 12 relief centres in five districts.

Kuala Kangsar had the most victims, with 911 people, followed by Hilir Perak with 375, Perak Tengah (227), Kerian (61) and Kampar (41).

As for the weather forecast, thunderstorms are expected in Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Muallim into the night.

According to the Drainage and Irrigation Department, the water levels at most rivers in the state are normal.

However, Sungai Rui at the Jalan Raya Perak bridge in Hulu Perak is at the warning level, while Sungai Perak at Pasang Api in Bagan Datuk, is at the alert level.
