INCENTIVES and programmes under Budget 2025 must be detailed and transparent as they would be watched by the public, investors and market observers, says Bersatu vice-president Datuk Dr Radzi Md Jidin (pic).
He said the lack of specifics makes it challenging for investors and analysts to scrutinise the budget effectively.
“There is no explanation on revenue generated from the Sales and Service Tax and how its scope of collection will be expanded.
“The same goes for subsidies. The government has not explained how much is truly saved.
“The government has to pay special attention here because this budget is being watched by many,” Radzi told a press conference in Parliament yesterday.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced a total allocation of RM421bil for Budget 2025, which consists of RM335bil for operational expenses and RM86bil for development.
This is nearly RM30bil more than the RM393.8bil allocated in Budget 2024.
Radzi also questioned whether equal allocations for MPs were included in Budget 2025.
He stressed the importance of creating a comprehensive political system that provides constituency development funds to all leaders, regardless of their political affiliations.
“Young professionals who want to help the country through politics often hesitate due to the lack of funding to support their parliamentary areas. It’s crucial to ensure fairness for both government and Opposition representatives,” he added.
Earlier this week, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Dr Zaliha Mustafa noted that Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman was the only MP to respond to the draft memorandum of understanding (MOU) regarding allocations for Opposition MPs.
She said Perikatan Nasional chief whip Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan had rejected the draft MOU.
