ALTHOUGH all mega projects are being put on hold, the government will proceed with those deemed crucial for public benefit and infrastructure that supports industrial estates.

“This is not the time for mega projects,” said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during his Budget 2025 speech in Parliament yesterday.

However, he said projects of importance to the country will be carried out.

In Selangor, these include the Sungai Langat 2 flood mitigation project and the expansion of Port Klang, aiming to position it among the world’s top 10 ports. This expansion involves widening roads at Lingkaran Pulau Indah and Northport.

In Kuala Lumpur, the development of Rantau Warisan and the restoration of key heritage buildings like the Sultan Abdul Samad building, KL Railway Station and Carcosa Seri Negara by Khazanah Nasional will proceed.

The Istana-Kiara (LIKE) highway project from Jalan Duta to Jalan Istana will also continue.

In Johor, key projects include the widening of the North-South Expressway from four to six lanes between Sungai Renggam and Machap, the Johor-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) set for completion in 2027, and the Sungai Sedili Besar, Kota Tinggi Barrage and Reservoir river project.

The Penang Light Rail Transit, the expansion of Penang International Airport and the Batu Kawan Industrial Park 3 will proceed.

In Negri Sembilan, road upgrades between Jalan Bahau and Keratong in Jempol, along with improvements to the Kuala Sawah sewage treatment plant, have been approved.

In Melaka, the construction of the multi-storey U-turn and direct U-turn at the Pulau Gadong junction up to the Cheng Perdana junction at Melaka Tengah and the construction of the Melaka Sentral central market will proceed.

In Kedah, the expansion of the Kulim Hi-Tech Park and the erection of additional blocks for Hospital Kulim will continue.

In Pahang, flood mitigation efforts along major rivers and road upgrades from the McDonald’s roundabout to the Brinchang junction, shortening the route to Cameron Highlands, have been greenlit.

In Kelantan, projects that would continue are the Air Machang treatment plant and the runway extension at the Sultan Ismail Petra Airport in Kota Baru.

In Terengganu, flood mitigation projects for Sungai Tepoh and Banggol Air Lilih, Kuala Nerus, will proceed as well as the Cypark Hybrid Solar Generator plant in Merchang and the Kenyir Floating Hybrid Hydro Solar Farm project and green hydrogen hub.
