Malaysia condemns killing of Hamas leader

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia mourns the loss of martyr Yahya Sinwar, a fighter and defender of the Palestinian people, who was brutally killed by the ruthless Zionist regime.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Malaysia strongly condemned the assassination of the Hamas political bureau chief, and it was clear that Israel’s attempt to weaken the Palestinian liberation cause would not succeed.

“Once again, the international community has failed to uphold and ensure peace and justice, further worsening the (Israeli-Palestinian) conflict,” he said in a Facebook post yesterday.

The Prime Minister also called on the international community to stand up to Israel’s atrocities and demanded an immediate halt to the ongoing massacre of Palestinians, Bernama reported.

Hamas confirmed that Sinwar was killed in an Israeli attack on Thursday.

Sinwar had been appointed to the position as a replacement for Ismail Haniyeh, who was killed in Teheran, Iran, in August.

The Islamic Affairs Department under the Prime Minister’s Department (JPM) also extended condolences to the family of Sinwar.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar said Sinwar’s spirit in defending Palestine and the Al-Aqsa Mosque would always be remembered by Muslims worldwide.

“JPM (Religious Affairs) condemns the cruel and inhumane actions of the Zionist Israeli regime,” he said.
