Motorist killed, passenger hurt in NPE crash

KUALA LUMPUR: A motorist died and his passenger suffered minor injuries after their car skidded, crashed and caught fire on KM14.9 of the New Pantai Expressway (NPE) at about 8am on Sunday (Oct 20).

City Fire and Rescue Department acting director Rozihan Anwar Mamat said the operations centre received an emergency call at 8.28am.

"A nine-man team from the Seputeh station was dispatched to the scene.

"At the scene, we found a car on fire, believed to be due to the impact of a road accident," he said in a statement.

He added that the injured man was sent to the University of Malaya Medical Centre while the driver's body was handed over to the police.

It was learnt passers-by managed to pull the victims, who are believed to be related, out of the car before it was engulfed.
