GEORGE TOWN: While manning the checkpoint at the Penang International Airport (PIA), two immigration enforcement officers colluded with an agent to allow foreign nationals unlawful entry via a special counter.

Their plot was detected when the agent, believed to a Bangladeshi, demanded RM4,500 from an Indonesian woman who had flown in on Sept 22.

She was reportedly told that she would be allowed to enter the country without going through the normal immigration process.

It is understood that the woman had asked for time to get the money.

She was then directed to a special counter manned by a female officer.

Both the immigration officers, in their 40s, were picked up by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and had their statement recorded on Friday.

The two suspects arrived at the George Town Court Complex yesterday morning accompanied by MACC officials.

They were brought before magistrate Muhamad Qayyum Noordin, who ordered that they be remanded for three days.

The case is being probed under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act.

On Friday night, the MACC detained the Bangladeshi national at a hotel here.

He was remanded for seven days under Section 16(b)(B) of the MACC Act.

Initial investigations revealed that the Bangladeshi national had collected RM2,000 from the Indonesian woman.
