Civil servants excited to opt for SSPA that offers broader career development

PUTRAJAYA: Public Service Department (JPA) staff members have expressed their excitement about signing the new salary scale for civil servants, the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA), which seeks to improve their welfare and offer broader career development.

JPA Salaries and Allowances Division chief assistant director Nuuraulia Md Isa said she was delighted to sign up for the option, which offers more benefits for civil servants.

She said the new salary system is a long-awaited initiative and that many civil servants are excited about the introduction of the SSPA.

"It gives us the motivation to serve the public (better). Through the SSPA, salaries and other benefits are increased, and I urge my fellow civil servants to sign up for this new system,” she said after the SSPA option signing ceremony on Monday (Oct 21)

Public Service director-general Tan Sri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz led 75 JPA personnel from various service groups at the ceremony.

Meanwhile, JPA Salaries and Allowances Division assistant director Bernard Kung called on all civil servants to sign up for the new salary option before Nov 30.

"We will get salary adjustments (through the SSPA). If we reject it, we won’t enjoy higher salaries. Benefits such as leave will also be increased, along with broader career pathways,” he said.

JPA security officer Muhammad Fadhlullah Abu Bakar said higher salary rates in SSPA encourage him to serve better, adding that it also demonstrates the government’s concern over the welfare of civil servants.

"I urge all (civil servants) to opt for SSPA and commit to carrying our duties as civil servants excellently,” he added.

SSPA is open to all permanent civil servants, and they can sign up for the option from today until Nov 30.

This new remuneration system, which will take effect on Dec 1, replaces the Malaysian Remuneration System (SSM).

Previously, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced a 15 per cent salary adjustment for officers in the Executive Group, Management and Professional Group, and a seven per cent raise for those in the Top Management Group.

The adjustments will be implemented in two phases: Phase 1 will start on Dec 1, 2024, and Phase 2 will begin on Jan 1, 2026.- Bernama
