Foreign national caught breaking car wipers in Batu Pahat arrested


PETALING JAYA: A man who committed vandalism by breaking the rear wipers of several cars, which was caught on video and went viral on Sunday, has been arrested by the police.

In a Sinar Harian report, Batu Pahat district police chief, Asst Comm Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani, said the 25-year-old foreign suspect was arrested by members of the Motorcycle Patrol Unit.

"An investigation found that the viral video showing a man breaking the rear wipers of parked vehicles happened near the Batu Pahat Bus Terminal, around 3:30pm on Sunday (Oct 20).

"During an inspection of the suspect after his arrest, the police found a folding knife in his backpack," he said in a statement on Monday (Oct 21).

Comm Shahrulanuar added that the case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing vandalism and Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Dangerous Weapons Act 1958 for carrying dangerous weapons in a public place.

"In addition, the suspect is also being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/1963 for being in Malaysia without valid documents," he said.

Earlier, a 16-second video went viral on TikTok showing the man’s actions, which caused public concern, with many urging the authorities to apprehend the culprit.
