A WIDOW in Penang, who was diagnosed with colon cancer, is determined to beat her illness for her daughter’s sake, reported China Press.
Teoh Pei Jong, 39, an avid runner and hiker, started experiencing abdominal pains in July. A CT scan revealed a 4cm tumour had ruptured in her colon.
Teoh, who worked as a swimming instructor and part-time promoter in Bukit Mertajam, underwent emergency surgery to remove the tumour.
A subsequent test found that she had colon cancer and the cells had spread to her liver. Doctors gave her six months to live.
Realising that she was the sole living parent of her 16-year-old daughter, Teoh was determined to beat the cancer. Since falling ill, she is unable to work and relies on her savings and the support of friends and family to get by.
Teoh needed around RM450,000 to cover her medical costs through the Bukit Mertajam One Hope Charity. Thanks to generous donors, the targeted amount was achieved in just one day and the fundraising closed on Oct 17.
> Chinese national diver Quan Hongchan is so loved by the public that Jackie Chan invited her to make a cameo on one of his upcoming films, reported China Press.
The teenager, an Olympic gold medallist, bumped into Chan while attending the 2024 Greater Bay Area Film and Music Gala in Macau recently, and Chan playfully asked if Quan was willing to appear in an upcoming project.Quan calmly replied that she had a rigorous training schedule and hardly checked her phone messages. Her diving instructor was the one managing her mobile phone, she said.
However, Quan did not reject the superstar’s offer. Instead, she asked to be paid in stuffed tortoises rather than cash. Her reply sent Internet users into fits of laughter.
