NEARLY 300 runners in Kampung Sungai Burong, Tanjong Karang, Selangor, brought their pet cats along for a scenic 6km padi field run on Sunday, reported Sinar Harian.

From local breeds to Persian cats, these felines were the true stars, drawing smiles and attention as they accompanied their owners, some perched in trolleys or snugged in backpacks.

Abdul Halim Mohd Yusof, administrator of the As-Solihin Mosque, couldn’t help but marvel at the uniqueness of the event.

“The sight of participants running with cats dressed with accessories was certainly the highlight of the event,” he said, clearly delighted by the light-hearted atmosphere.

This quirky fun run marked the first of its kind in the area, but it was more than just a fun day out.

For Abdul Halim, it was a creative way to engage the local youth with the mosque, demonstrating that community events can mix spirituality with fun.

“We always look for new ways to connect young people to the mosque, and activities like these show that the mosque can be a centre for more than just religious events; it can be a place for the whole community to come together,” he added.

With cats stealing the show, it was a day that left runners and spectators with a fresh perspective on what community spirit can look like with furry friends in tow.
